After a long while, the Host has finally received a new mission! IA messenger from Dale to Rivendell has revealed that there is a good possibility that a fierce dragon is alive in Erebor; the people in that part of Endor are terrified. The Counselor of War, Rilome, and the Host Captain, Narie Alarion, have been in discussion with the Lords Elrond and Glorfindel about the matter and it has been decided that the Host of Imladris will go to Erebor to discover what terror awaits there, though it is almost certain that a dragon is involved.

Two teams of Host soldiers are to be dispatched under the command of Elwen Falmariel and me. It seems that only Eruverde, a wizardess of Middle-earth, has been the one to answer the call, though Rilome hopes to become part of the mission. The two teams are Naur and Khelek: Fire and Ice respectively. It remains to be seen who will be victorious against the wrym. The mission teams have yet to leave the fair Valley of Rivendell, so Host Soldiers: Come and take part! There is still time for you to join up with either me or Elwen!

Autumn has returned to the valley and covered all trees and bushes in warm colours ranging from yellow to red and brown. In the gardens the flowers of autumn plants give life to the third season of the year. Fresh and morning air to fine temperatures around the afternoon were the friends of the patients resting in the recovery rooms, healing slowly from their wounds. The business of the last month had subdued a bit, though a few healing rooms were in use, and a class of eager aphadoer were being educated in their first case of healing.

At the moment Nia Dunami was being cared for by the nestor Aikari and her helping aphador Kiranell. The eager student was progressing well and Nia was already her second healing case. Nia had taken a bad fall from her horse, but soon through the hands of the two healers she would be on the mend again. In the gardens were nestor Narie and small maiden Ealena. A visitor, the dwarf Dalguod, had reported at the reception to be a visitor for Eruverde. And so life went on inside the Adab Nestad.

In her office sat Minestor Idhwen bowed over some dossier which she had finished by now. Through the fine air she felt a little shiver crawling up her back; something was about to happen. The elves could sometimes sense mischief ahead she knew. But if it was a warning, she had no idea. A bit worried, she took care to see the patient dossiers being brought over the archives. Perhaps she should join up with the healing class for a while. When the aphador class was finished, soon she would start a nestor one. So if you want to learn the art of healing, you are welcome to join. Go over to the office and leave a note. Either Minestor Aikári or Tanestor Númellótë will be there to help you with instructions.

Some time has passed and the Library of Imladris is still a bit quiet. Mar has begun to stock shelves with books, going about her librarian duties; while she does so I’ve continued to read Elvana and the Wizard of Esgal’nor, the tale of the Rohan girl who was brought by the great winds of tornado to a magical and mysterious land. Mar has even set refreshments close near for us and for anyone else who will come in to listen or to do some studying or reading for themselves in the Library of Rivendell. I’ve read two chapters to Silmiel so far since I last reported. Elvana Sulëwyn has entered the haunted and creepy forest of Doomwood because her cat, tired of journeying down the Road of Silver Brick, wanted to see something new, and Elvana had to go after her. Though she found Hisimeoi, she encounted a tall and hulking monster called an Enmity.

The Enmity was going to slay and eat her but appearing in the dark woodland between the two was a ghost paladin. His ornate armor was golden and scorched, the heart on his breastplate barely seen; his mount was a black horse wreathed in fire and shadow. The paladin destroyed the monster and questioned Elvana about her coming and lineage. He, Sir Ullich, shared who he was – a Death Knight who in life served the witch Berehal that Elvana’s house had fallen on and killed; he and his horse, Bane ( the steed – “a nightmare” , appropriately – he rides in death ), were destroyed by a magical lightning attack by the wizard in the war.

To shelter her for the night he led her to the house that he haunted. It belonged to a Sinta widow and her children. When alive, Sir Ullich had to flee from an attack of dwarves and the little Sintas and had found the house, then demanded of the wife that he be quartered. When she refused he forced his way inside and beat her children to death. He tortured the widow and caused fire to be set to the house. As he was leaving her for dead, she cursed him to a life in death so he would muse forever on his crimes. Sir Ullich has anguished for quite a long time on his misdeeds in life and wishes release. Though Elvana despises his actions she has seen that he really does regret the sins of his past life; she has welcomed the death knight to come with her to Faina in Esgal’nor to ask the Wizard to set his soul free. Look here next time to know who else Elvana will meet on the Road of Silver Brick as she travels to Fairyland to see the Wizard and other Library of Imladris matters.

Oldie Perspective

Looking forward when you're looking back

After a year and a half absence from the Lord of the Rings Plaza, coming back was a surreal experience. It wasn't what it used to be – due to the fact that the movies got us new members almost in the dozen every single day, we were spoiled for choice. Games were in abundance. Tribute was given out in the heaps and people played around... sometimes even spamming. I guess I'm the first one to admit that I've dipped my toe in the spamming pool a few times but when you were on the old plaza, that was what it was about. Two sentence long posts were the norm. So my question is: how you do look forward when you're always looking back?

I'm friends with a lot of the oldies, people who have been around for more than four years. I often find myself reminiscing with my plaza friends, or as they have come to be, real life friends. Those were the golden days, when people had so much to do on the plaza they couldn't keep up. You could post constantly for twenty four hours and still not finish everything you had in mind. The old plaza was a great plaza, but I guess one of the most important things is accepting that we have moved on. To something, hopefully, that will become better.

So how do you look forward when you're looking back: you look forward, hold on to the people you're close to and embrace the plaza for what it is. A community of Tolkien lovers who come together, to express their love for his writing in various ways. Whether it be by discussing Lore, or role-playing together in the world he created... we're doing something together. So that's how. Look at the people around you and make the plaza what it is by enjoying the people around you.

Remember the good old days but most importantly... look forward to the new ones.

Tidings from Abroad

Isengard

October has brought many changes in Isengard, home of the Istari and the White Council, a gathering of the wisest denizens of Middle-Earth. We have opened a new pub specifically dedicated to Halloween where visitors may proudly display their Halloween costumes. In addition, Lanthir has been able to trick our rulers and open five threads for herself within our kingdom. She has restarted the Orthanc diaries, a place where all may note and record the dramas of their lives, and hopefully will open one where we may bash our rulers! In our wonderful Undying Lands subforum, home of the Valar, Maiar and Eldar, we see a new round of UL rank and icon signups lasting from October to November. The Flight of the Noldor RPG has ended, and has ceded its place to its successor, Destiny’s Way, the Return of the Noldor. Come sign up for this truly epic RPG series spanning the Ages of history!

Unfortunately, a shocking piece of bitter news outweighs all the good events that have occurred. Our beloved Saruman, Daywalker, is stepping down and leaving us temporarily due to issues in RL. We do hope to see him return soon, for his ruling skills will be sorely missed by all.

Khazad-dûm

Varkin once again, readers of the Herald!

Khazad-dûm foundations were shaken with the sea of news and enthusiasm that has fallen upon the Kingdom! The more-than-expected marriage between Tornihyanda, the Lord of the Mountains, and Boraxa, Miss Khazad-dûm, has finally been announced in the Coffeehouse of Dwarfbucks! The party in the Coffeehouse was almost ruined by the appearance of an unwished minion guest, but fortunately peace was restored before things became more complicated. Though the exact date of event hasn't been set yet, the arrangements for the grand day are already being prepared. Besides this, another commemorative event was announced in the Realm of the Dwarves. After long years of hard work and contributions to Khazad-dûm, the Rules granted TMM with an honouring party where all the inhabitants were invited to appear.

With the intention of making a massive census concerning the preferences of the Middle-Earth inhabitants, the Dwarves have opened a chamber where questionnaires are being distributed and answered by anyone who has some spare time to write down some answers. The questions are periodically renewed, so, if you have answered one of them, make sure you pass by The Azanulbizar Questionnaire Chamber once again to fill some more papers! Subjects may differ from your pet preference to your favourite food, and in the end, we may get some surprising conclusions!

Another plan in the minds of the Rulers concerns the publishing of the last Dwarven achievements around Middle-Earth. With a format similar to a newspaper, the Rulers want all the Dwarves to have the chance to know what their kin are doing in the outside; all the trophies they won in different competitions, which records they have broken, etc. This would be a place where everyone, including foreign visitors, may let the public know what cultural events are taking place in their own homelands.

The famous Smoking Chamber of Khazad-dûm has also been reopened a while ago and it keeps attracting new customers. Known by its pipes and fine weed, the Smoking Chamber has received many new pipe-smokers; some desire only to pass by and fill their purses with some fresh weed, while others prefer to stay a little longer to learn and practise a bit with the Chamber Master. They may show you new teachings, techniques, etc., such as runes, smoke shapes and types of weed. If you are interested in developing your smoking skills a bit, do not hesitate to visit the Smoking Chamber!

I hope I've allowed you to catch with the last news of our dear Kingdom! Do you have any suggestion on how to improve Khazad-dûm? Or perhaps you would like to visit one of the places mentioned above? Whatever the reason, you are more than welcome in our Realm. We all hope to receive your visit soon!

Mordor

Keeping Mordor Sil.. er, deadly.

Mordor changed one day. It changed the day that Silendra or then known as Aklarien came to be the... evil. Anyway, I could bore you with a long story of how she changed Mordor, turned it into something great but that would be wrong... She revolutionised Mordor; she turned Mordor into something brilliant. Under her careful rule, Mordor changed. Yes, there have been other brilliant rulers but I believe she is one of the greats. And to coincide with this month, it's her RULERVERSARY. To celebrate her one year of ruling there have been a few threads to honour her, so here's the latest run-down; if you have some free time, come join in on the fun!

Silendra Survey- Trivia About Our Sauron

This thread is the everything-you-could-possibly-know-about-Silendra thread. Random trivia questions are being asked to test your knowledge of her. If you think you know her better then her own mother, come down and answer some questions.

She's so Sil-ly

This thread is for all of you Silly lovers to come and worship her on your hands and feet. Give Sil your best wishes in this thread and also enjoy digging up any dirt you might have on her. Tribute might be awarded for those who have the dirtiest laundry on her.

Pin the Ring on the Kitty

Try to throw rings at the kitty and if it lands on the tail you can get a small amount of points. You might get challenges as well to increase your points, so go celebrate and try pin the ring on the kitty by getting your groove on.

If you're looking for a fight or a challenge, then come to Mordor. It's always the place to be.
